Rocket Motor Tutorial Primer:

Mr. Gary A. Crowell Sr.  made a wonderful MS-DOS software presentation providing data on rocket motor basics, including not just a standard Estes motor, he also included composite motor data on how a single use composite motor and how reloadable motors work. The program can still be found on the web.  However, it will require windows 98 or Windows XP to function.  I will post the items presented by him here in pdf format.  It is a great learning tool for those who want to learn more about rocket motors:

Just for giggles, I modified the 3D model slightly to make it more suitable for 3D printing. Here's a pic of the model. I have the .STL file and can post it up somewhere (thingiverse etc...) if it's allowed. It's up to CG, Gheem, and N00b though.

I wish there was a high power field in Medina. It's literally 5 minutes from my house! :)

Glad you like it! Please feel free to use it however you like. The full-size version of this view is 2258 x 1746, and I can re-render it in other positions if you need it. I played around with it a lot until I found a view that looked really good and I think this is it, but it's your choice.

Patrons of the rocketry show will be treated to a 90 minute version of this show this weekend!

***

CG follows up on the previous episode, adding some important notes about Lithium Polymer (LiPo) Batteries.

We invite Chris Pearson, Prefect for Northern Ohio Tripoli to the show to talk about what it takes and things to think about to file an FAA Waiver for high power rocketry launches.  He also talks about things to think about when doing so.

For the Patrons of our show, we will post (shortly) a much longer version of this show, where Chris Pearson fills in much of the history behind this process!

FAA information mentioned in this episode can be found here:

I think this is cool as all get out!

Go for it!  I would love to use your 3-D model for our logos as well!  :-)

The Rocketry Show / 3D Rendering of the Logo Rocket

So one of my ways of "Geeking out" is to do 3D renderings of model rocket kits. I've done most of them just for fun, but I've also done some commissioned work for different kit manufacturers (and I'm always looking to do more :) ).

Anyway, I was looking at the podcast logo yesterday and got the brilliant idea to render the rocket contained therein. Below is the result. The bonus of the 3D modeling software I use is that once a 3D model is built, it can be exported as an .STL file for 3D printing. I managed to put out one .STL, but I think I can tweak a better version if anyone's interested, and if it's okay with the show management.
